I recently had a 2 women show at a gallery. We sent out 500 invites in envelopes and a hand written note on each post card. I also sent out email invites to 400 and the gallery sent out even more email invites and press releases. We had a large turn out. They oo'd and aa'd, ate and drank, congratulated us on our awesome show, and went home empty handed. I've been painting for more than 40 years and still have not been able to successfully market my work. Is it just me or my work. wwwpatriciakness.com
This internet marketing is so vast, I feel like I'm in the middle of the ocean in a row boat with a cane pole and a minnow. I just want to paint but I'm drowning in art debt.
For most smaller paintings I lay them on the floor and stand above them, shooting straight down. Outside on an overcast day works best. It may take several shots to keep the sides straight, but with digital,it is easy to delete. For watercolors of course I do this before they are under glass, for oils I try to remember to photograph them before the final varnish.
