"Trent's signature pieces... marry what he feels
with the realism in what he sees." --Rob Stern, Samarah Fine Art.
"Gudmundsen's paintings... convey a sense of warmth using light and strong contrast.
Although a young painter, his confident brush stroke is that of a much older and experienced painter."
--Steve Brennen, S.R. Brennen Galleries.
I'm constantly amazed by the beauty I see in seemingly simple events and scenes in every day life. My emotions are captured by these scenes, so I want to remember my feelings. That is why I paint what I do.

ABOUT TRENT GUDMUNDSEN:
Raised in a small farming town in eastern Utah, I spent my childhood wandering among the fields and canyons near my home, and was driven from an early age to record my impressions of life with brushes and paint. By the time I was twelve, I already had a determination to make my life one of art. With little training to go on, I would over-confidently head out into the pastures and hills near my house to paint whenever I got the chance. (I love those memories). I feel indebted to VaLoy Eaton , a prominent (and NAWA/Prix de West award-winning) landscape artist who guided my passion, and introduced me to the works of various master painters of the past and present.
Some years later, as a young art student in college, my grades started slipping after I began spending nearly all day every day painting in the nearby canyons instead of going to my classes (I couldn't stand the mundane exercises that had nothing to do with nature). Not only did my hands-on experience at that time help to fine-tune my ability to see and appreciate nature, but my somewhat stubborn attitude about the necessity of hard work and self-education has continued all my life.
Inspiration comes at me from a lot of angles, but I find more and more that I seem to be drawn to subjects that remind me in some way of the rural area where I was raised (which, as I recall, was pretty close to the perfect place to grow up).
I'm essentially a "painterly realist". I approach my paintings with a "less is more" attitude, but I still delight in adding just the right amount of refinement where necessary.
My wife, Lorajean, and I, and our three children currently live in Logan, Utah in a 100-year old house on a small city lot. We enjoy practicing traditional American homesteading skills, and are currently seeking a larger piece of land where our chickens, goats, and children will have a larger place to play.
