The Artist Says:

"All of my works are about heaven and earth, and their relationship. Effective design and lively color are my compositional concerns in each painting. Through these artworks I'd like the viewer to experience a real sense of nature, as though Nature itself had made the painting. The expressionistic realism communicated through brushstroke, draftsmanship, and color convey my passion and appreciation for Life. It is my intent that those who connect with my work will be uplifted to reflect on the original works of God that surround us."

"The quality of our drawing characterizes how profoundly we understand our world. The focus of our expression characterizes what we want to say about it."

Rick is a California landscape painter and Scripturally-inspired artist

based in California. He is known as a prominent coastal artist,

whose work features breathtaking water- and landscapes.

Biography

"Tremendous energy and movement!" --Arnold Levine, artist

Rick has been creating artwork in the studio and on location for over three decades. Born of Irish-Germanic parents in northern California in 1951, Rick has learned to appreciate his rural surroundings at a young age, through hiking the hills and running with his school's cross-country teams. He turned that appreciation of nature into paintings and drawings, and carried that into high school art classes, then into university training as he pursued degrees in English Literature and Studio Art at UC Santa Barbara, and also earned his teaching credentials there.

Rick J. Delanty came to San Clemente, California in 1974 as an arts instructor at the city's high school, where he taught drawing and painting for 32 years. Rick saw many of his students enter careers in the arts. Upon retiring from teaching in 2006, Rick became a full-time painter of landscapes and seascapes throughout the United States, in a style that he terms "expressionistic realism;" an exuberant calligraphy of color and brushstroke which conveys emotion and movement within a realistic setting.

Among Rick's influences he counts the works of Monet, Winslow Homer, Van Gogh, James Whistler, and contemporary landscape painters April Gornik and Neil Welliver. Rick's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the nation, and has been included in invitational plein air events across the West. Rick has received several awards, both at the regional and national level, including Best of Show at the Borrego Plein Air Invitational, the Peterson Award at the annual exhibition of the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic, and both the Boseker and Surfrider awards at the Laguna Plein Air Invitational at the Laguna Art Museum.

Rick is a member of the California Art Club, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, and Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA).

Artist's Statement: "My body of work is about the revelation of the divine power of God's creation in nature. It is my hope that those who connect with my work will be uplifted, to reflect on the original works of God that surround us."

_____

"In all our Maker's grand designs,

Omnipotence, with wisdom, shines;

His works, through all this wondrous frame,

Declare the glory of his Name."

--Thomas Blacklock

A colorful exhibition that explores the rich history, culture, and sporting activities surrounding San Onofre beaches and Parks. Seven of my paintings have been selected to be the artistic thread that runs throughout the exhibiton. I have run through this area for over thirty years, and have swum many times along its coastline--it is like home to me. That kind of research--in addition to the recent drawings and photographs I have created there--is the underpinning for my seven paintings. Surfing history, coastal preservation, and Native American roots are the backdrop for this most interesting and varied exhibition. View of Trestles beaches, 30x40.
