"I paint because painting allows me to respond to my surroundings in a way that I otherwise could not. It allows me to revel in my happy memories of spending all my daylight hours on the seashore and to portray those things I find to be special around me. I find watercolour the perfect medium for capturing the atmosphere and light of my local environment. I tend to focus on scenes of nature, be it our ever-changing coastline or flowers that I have grown in my garden. I attempt to show these things as I see them; striving to keep my paintings fresh and spontaneous with luminous colour."
I am a watercolour painter living and painting on the shores of the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia, Canada.
I paint subjects that offer themselves from the local area. This includes everything from the fishing boats that work from the wharf in Digby to the fields that surround the ocean and the people who live here. For the last year, I have been focusing on the herring weirs that are rapidly disappearing from the local coasts. This passive means of fishing is one that relies on time, tides and the movement of the fish. I want to capture some of that quiet patience in my paintings.
Please take a few moments to explore my site and the paintings featured here. There is a menu on the left which appears on every page. Make sure to visit my blog (see the link on the left) where I write about what I am painting and what I am thinking about as I paints.
