Biography
I describe my style as representational/impressionist. I am best known for "intimate landscapes" featuring old buildings in France, Italy, Holland, and Key West, Florida.
I am fortunate to have enjoyed concentrated study with master painters Scott Christensen (Plein-Air), Jeff Legg and Robert A Johnson (Still life) and Kevin Weckbach (Masterpainting studies 3 years). Each has made a significant impact technically and professionally.
I work nearly every day, in my Boulder, Colorado studio/gallery, usually 4-6 hours. I prefer to work on location whenever possible (plein-air) painting in Colorado, the Southwest, or Europe. In June, 2012, I painted in Alsace, France for two weeks; and in January 2013, I will head to Melbourne, Australia for a month of visiting family and painting.
Twenty five new paintings will be available for my "One Woman Show" in Key West, Florida . (Feb 17 - 28 ) This exhibition will feature intimate scenes of Alsace done on site as well as studio work inspired from France, Holland, and of course, Key West.
In the studio, I often do "warm-ups" in which I paint abstractly to interpret specific musical passages in order to develop a stronger sense of rhythm and feeling in my painting. This, I call my "alter-ego at work." While these works are not presented in the two galleries which carry my work, I do have the distinction of being selected by the conductor of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Michael Butterman, (Boulder, Colorado 2007) to "interpret" Strauss' "Death and Transfiguration" during a live performance for an audience of nearly 3,000. This was filmed in color and can be seen in a "streaming" feature (2007-08 season) at the website of Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra.
