Focal Point: Keith Bond

An example of fine art by Keith Bond

Photo of Keith Bond
Keith Bond's passion for the great outdoors is the inspiration for his "plein air" landscapes. From the rich colors of autumn to the subtle shades of winter, his use of color and the play of light and shadows bring a feeling of harmony and gentle balance to his interpretations of seemingly simple scenes.

The Artist Says:

Plein air painting is my response to the moment - the reflected light in the water or the mood created by the shadows.

I try to make each stroke meaningful.

Collectors Say:

"Keith's work contains a freshness and harmonization of color that brings out a realism in nature seldom achieved [by other artists]. Keith is able to capture and convey the spirit of his subject matter in a most remarkable way. Anyone with a trained eye, a love of nature and a love of art will cherish a Bond painting in her or his collection."

- Gary Henrie

"Many good artists look for a 'Grand Canyon' or 'Grand Tetons' to producea worthy painting. Keith Bond can drive down the highway or a country road and find a site just around the corner. The beauty is in the art, not the scenery. The great western writer, Wallace Stegner, returned later in life to his birthplace, which someone had told him was the most desolate place on earth. Stegner wrote that he arrived seeking desolation, but found none. Keith can glorify the most overlooked scene with skillful use of design, color, and composition. No fuji film green here!"

- Dave Sturges

Other Artists Say:

" I met Keith about ten years ago and have enjoyed watching the growth in his work over this time. He has an uncanny ability to capture the look and feel of the locations he paints along with their seasonal changes. The exciting thing is that he does so with out getting bogged down in unnecessary details or cliches. I look forward to what Keith will come up with over the next ten years."

- Matt Smith

Biography

Biography

"Keith depicts the majestic landscape with reverence and awe, his paintings take us away to commune with nature," writes Clint Watson of Informed Collector. Keith Bond's exquisite oil paintings exude deep emotion and veneration for the earth. He has a gift of capturing the true essence of the place. Keith - who spent his youth exploring the remote mountains and canyons near his childhood home in rural Cache Valley, Utah - has a natural ability to see beyond the 'picturesque' beauty of a scene. He can also feel the spirit of the landscape. He paints this feeling - an emotional response to the scene - rather than painting a literal depiction.

His work has quickly gained recognition as he has exhibited in numerous invitational, juried and one man shows across the country. He has received many awards and his work has been included in several publications. His work can be found in many private and public collections worldwide including museums, corporate offices, government buildings, and religious institutions. He was commissioned to paint 2 murals for the Senate Chamber of the Utah State Capitol Building. Additionally, he has monumental murals in several other buildings. Most recently, a large scale mural project was installed into the Quetzaltenango Guatemala Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The mural, depicting the highlands of Guatemala, measures over 9 feet high and nearly 75 feet long as it wraps around the room.

Keith currently lives north of Ft. Collins in rural Wellington, Colorado with his wife and six children.

Seeing is a critical skill for the representational artist.  Nature is full of so much information that it can often be overwhelming to paint.  To paint the landscape, the artist must learn to see the important elements and nothing else!  This intensive, 4-day workshop will focus on how to see.  There is a direct correlation between proficiency with the fundamentals and the ability to see as an artist.  Some of the fundamental skills discussed will include: seeing the abstract patterns and shapes, seeing the value and color relationships, seeing light, seeing edges, seeing relationships that occur in nature, seeing textures, seeing volume of mass, etc.

Wildflowers Among the Aspen, by Keith Bond

Everyone sees in a unique way.  What I see will differ from what you see, even when looking upon the same scene.  We will discuss how to interpret your emotional response to the scene by understanding what and how you see.  Once you understand what you see and why you respond to the scene, you can then paint a more meaningful expression of the landscape.

We will paint on location daily.  With the class size limited to 15 students, there will be plenty of one-on-one attention.  The workshop will begin with a lecture on the first day and conclude with a group critique on the last day.  The workshop is open to serious artists from beginner to professional.

Workshop is held in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Set in a beautiful mountain valley, painting opportunities abound everywhere. The scenery is absolutely spectacular with quite a variety of possibilities. This is one of my favorite places to paint - and I have painted all over Colorado. The town itself is a ski resort town in winter. During the summer, hiking, biking, fishing, tubing are just a few of the many things to do here.

Bring a Workshop to your area(0)
Anywhere
1/1/2014-12/31/2014

Would you like to attend a weeklong workshop, but don't care for travel? Or maybe you do like to travel and would like to attend a workshop in your favorite travel destination. Or it might be a destination you have always dreamed of traveling to and painting.

Maybe we can bring a workshop to that area.

I am always willing to consider any location for an upcoming workshop. Simply contact me with your request. I cannot reasonably or practically organize a workshop in every suggested location. But I will give each thoughtful consideration and choose the locations that seem to serve the needs of the most students.

Additionally, I sometimes organize my own workshops and sometimes teach workshops for art schools or other arts organizations. I am willing to consider either option for your area.

Contact me to discuss the options, possible dates, and locations.
