It is such a blessing and a privilege to be an artist. My greatest satisfaction comes from successfully connecting with the viewer on a emotional level through my work...when they feel the emotions I felt as I painted a particular subject, why I chose the subject in the first place. There is so much beauty all around us, even in simple things. My hope is that the viewer may be able to stop and see the subjects I paint in a new light, in a way they never noticed before.

Above is one of my latest paintings, "Just Chillin' in the Shade". Visit the "My New Works" section under the "Paintings" tab to read more about this piece. It will be included in the "Earth and Sky: Women of the Prairie" exhibition at The Gallery at Artworks in Wichita, Kansas, which opens May 31st. Below is another new painting, entitled "At the Cliff's Edge" (9x12 oil on linen panel). It was painted on location at Garrapata State Park in California and is one of the paintings included in "Powered by Nature: Seven Women", an exhibition featuring the work of seven women artists: Becky Joy, Kim Casebeer, Cindy Baron, Christine Debrosky, Shanna Kunz, Lori McNee and myself. The show will run through May 19th at Mountainsong Gallery in Carmel, California.
Also now showing at Southwind Gallery in Topeka, Kansas: The Missouri Valley Impressionist Society's 2nd Annual Juried Exhibition featuring one of my paintings. Twelve more of my paintings are on display in the gallery's upstairs loft too! My work will also be featured in exhibitions in Wichita Kansas in June, Door County Wisconsin in July, Denver Colorado in August, Charleston SC in October and Seattle Washington in November. Debra Joy Groesser
"Capturing the Spirit"
Nebraska artist Debra Joy Groesser received her BFA degree in art in 1978. She has studied with such renowned artists as Kevin Macpherson, Scott Christensen, Kim English, John Cosby and Kenn Backhaus. Debra is passionate about plein air painting in oils. Her landscape paintings have garnered national recognition and awards. Being outdoors in God's creation, whether in her perennial garden, in the mountains or by the sea, provides her endless inspiration for her work. Debra's ability to capture mood, emotion, atmosphere and a sense of place in her work attracts collectors, both private and corporate, worldwide. Debra also paints portraits and figurative works. In 2011, she was commissioned by Omaha Performing Arts to create a large portrait of Richard and Mary Holland, which hangs at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Debra is a signature member and 2013 President of the American Impressionist Society, a signature member of American Plains Artists, a signature member and board member of Plein Air Artists Colorado and an associate member of Oil Painters of America. Her work has been featured in several national art publications including the Nov/Dec 2011 issue of Art of the West magazine. She was named a finalist in Southwest Art Magazine's Artistic Excellence competition and is featured in the December 2012 issue of Southwest Art.
