Oil on canvas 21" x 30" by Connie Andrews - 2013 This piece depicts Preston Jackson bringing Richard Pryor "to life" in his studio in Peoria. It was painted from a series of photographs that I took of him in February at his studio in Peoria. Watching Preston work, with freeing music filling the space, is mesmerizing. Be it classical, jazz or the blues, he works with the music, molding the clay with his bare hands, then using the knife, he scrapes texture onto the surface or removes sections not needed to bring out the figure residing inside. This painting took on a life of it's own as I was creating it. Besides the movement of the hands, can you see all 3 profiles of Preston?
Biography
Connie Andrews has been living in Central Illinois for most of her life. For close to 15 years she owned and operated an auto upholstery business. She was a freelance reporter/photographer for a few years for the East Peoria Times Courier. Now, she is pleased to be a full time artist, currently working on several commission pieces, as well as a series of oil paintings depicting hands doing what they do best.
