Christine Tierney's desire to create has been with her since she discovered the fun in making marks with a pencil. Her love of art led to a long, successful career in graphic design and illustration, which grew into the pursuit of studying classical painting in the method of the old masters, spiced with contemporary artistic influences. She paints in a traditional style, and continues to explore a variety of artistic approaches, always challenging herself to move to the next level.
She enjoys the entire painting process from the challenge of creating a beautiful setup for a still life, to painting en plein air (outdoors), to painting figures and portraits in the studio from life. Her mediums of choice are oils and pastels.
Christine is one of the founding partners of Savage Art Studios, and is a member of the Outdoor Painters of Minnesota, the Lake Country Pastel Society, Burnsville Visual Arts Society, Bloomington Art Center, the Edina Art Center, and the Savage Arts Council. She is an art educator and teaches classes and workshops in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
A featured artist in many venues, Christine has won numerous awards for her paintings, and her works are in several private collections.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I am intrigued by the delicate
and mysterious nuances
of natural light and shadows.
Outdoor inspirations are endless . . .
light peeking through the trees,
a bud seeking the warmth of the sun,
long, cool shadows dancing on a wall . . .
In the studio I take pleasure in
gathering treasures for a still life, arranging,
rearranging and editing until
it
just
feels
right.
Color, temperature,
illumination and shadows are all
thoughtfully considered
and carefully executed.
When I paint, my heart is
swept away in the moment
and that is when
I feel very close to God.
