Biography
Ananta Mandal was Born in the year 1983. He has completed his studies 'B.V.A' (1st class) from Govt. College of Art & Craft, Calcutta University (Kolkata) in 2007. Now he lives and works in Mumbai (INDIA).
He has exhibited his works in innumerous group shows and solo exhibitions and at the same time he was invited as an artist in different parts of India and abroad. During his college days, Ananta bagged many national as well as international awards & exhibited his works in India and abroad. He worked out a highly individual style, but at the same time it was deeply contemporary in its sensibilities.
Most of his paintings are watercolor, acrylic and oil color based. The viewers, here, can get to see some superb drawing by the artist. Ananta has delineated various facts of rain – soaked city as well as seascape. The fluid moments are brilliantly captured by the artist.
Ananta's youthful exuberance and his wide-eyed optimism reflect in his painting. Each painting is a window to the world of particular artist, a view that can't be fully articulated in words. He has a fine sense of composition with an eye for subtle details and a tactile sense of monsoon atmospherics. He has shown with considerable skill, how in the presence of rain, human activities acquire a very especial beauty. His water colors are bright and sensuous but their atmosphere evokes a strange mysteriousness. His watery stroke comes from many things: the hustle and bustle of modern city life, lush forest, tropical beaches and the many moods of nature.
His paintings are enveloped in a misty film, creating a strange magical effect and the grimy familiar everyday world is suddenly elevated by beautiful, romantic plane. No wonder, his paintbrush has captured the water image of the city roads, countryside ambience and the blue sky merging with the horizon - all of which seems to come alive in his work while their simple charm create a subtle poetry in his paintings. Moreover, the interplay of light and shade has produced a chiaroscuro effect in his cityscape. Line and hues have been wonderfully blended to catch the rhythm of city life in a transparent treatment and getting them translated into artwork. In his all painting such as figurative or landscape he shows enough power to transcend the confines of sheer dexterity.
His sketchy use of acrylic lends his figure vitality and fluidity of motion with surface wrinkles and color, light combinations gives a theatrical arrangement sets up a dynamic encounter in a neutral space fraught with ambiguity. Impression of different textures, adds to the meaning and depth of an artwork, contrast of thin areas of paint set against areas of thick, solid paint and with varying intensity of strokes, texture enables surface a palpable quality.
The artist who has always been miles away from limelight will be a special feast to the eyes of art lover.
