Biography

Native to the California Bay area and a graduate of the Academy of Art University, San Francisco CA, Kim Fancher Lordier combines keen observation and sensitivity to her award winning landscapes. After college, Lordier flew for a major air carrier, experiencing many domestic and foreign locales, while keeping up with painting and portraiture. After the events of September 2001 she turned to painting full time. "There is nothing like the inner peace that comes from working from life, exploring the way the sun can transform an ordinary object into something stunning. I want you to see the beauty in what we pass by everyday, and acknowledge the importance of open space in our lives."

Inspired by the turn of the century California Impressionists and Tonalists, Kim paints in the plein air tradition. Fascinated with California's unique atmospheric qualities, Kim strives to capture the beauty, depth and energy of the land and sea. She is currently a Signature member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters, the Pastel Society of the West Coast, and Artist Member of the California Art Club.

_____ Laguna Plein Air Painters Association's 10th Annual Plein Air Invitational at the Laguna Art Museum During the second week of October, fifty of the finest plein air painters in the country will travel to Laguna Beach, California to participate in the 10th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational, the most prestigious event of its kind in the nation. Their best works will be displayed at the Collectors' Soirée and Sale held at Laguna Art Museum on Saturday evening, October 18, during which time collectors will have the first opportunity to purchase works of art created by the participating artists. These works may be previewed free of charge on Saturday between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. Art and nature lovers are invited to participate by watching the artists at their easels during the Southwest Art Quick Draw on Saturday, October 18 from 9:00 am to 11:00am. Held in Heisler Park and Main Beach, adjacent to the Museum, the 50 participating artists have only two hours to complete a work of art. The works will then be sold at the Collectors' Soirée and Sale on Saturday night. The annual Invitational is hosted by Laguna Art Museum and The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, and benefits both organizations and the artists, showcasing the artistic skills of the invited artists and making their works available to the public. On Sunday, October 19, participating artists will replace the work that was sold on Saturday night and the Museum will be open to the public from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm for the Sunday Sale. Continuing the local tradition, Laguna Beach has been known worldwide as an art colony since early in the twentieth century attracting thousands of artists and collectors each year. Large barns, out buildings, Tomales Bay, ranch animals, and ocean views are just minutes away.
The four day workshop will stress the fundamentals, such as value, compostion, color, edges and alternative pastel techniques within the scope of plein air painting.

"Your wash technique was key in your 'process' approach. Your emphasis on not only doing accurate thumbnails, but scaling it up carefully will also enhance my future process. Your techniqe of adhering to value plan, creating luminosity and controlling edges were all extremely valuable." D.H. Spring 2005 Workshp

"I like the format- demo, then practice-don't work for a 'finished' piece - step by step personal guidance from thumbnail to 'wash' to laying in of color; checking back for help as we painted; SHORT lunch; take it again from the top; then critique." D.M. Spring Workshop 2005
