Jean LeGassick
Biography
Jean LeGassick was born in California in 1950 and lived there for her first 47 years. She graduated from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, in 1979 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. Her artist affiliations include the Plein-Air Painters of America and the California Art Club.Jean was recently honored by being chosen as one of six artists filmed for the PBS series, "Plein-Air: Painting the American Landscape" which is currently being shown on public television stations across the nation (see the PBS Series page on this web site for more information).
She has participated in many fine invitational art shows throughout the country, including several museum shows. Click on "Exhibitions" on the Artwork page to view current work in the most recent exhibitions.
Her work can be found in many public and private collections, including the permanent collection of the Nevada Museum of Art. Jean has been a featured artist in PleinAir Magazine (Dec. `04), as well as having her work published in many other national magazines in the past decade.
An art instructor at Cerro Coso Community College in Bishop, California for many years, she continues to teach an occasional oil painting workshop (see Workshops page on this web site). The current summer 2008 issue of American Artist's Workshop Magazine features Jean while she taught a recent Art in the Aspens Workshop in Pueblo, Colorado.

Jean LeGassick will again be participating at Maynard Dixon Country 2008. This show is sponsored by The Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts, and is held in Mt. Carmel, Utah, at Dixon's former summer home. The show features some of the finest contemporary artists, working in a variety of styles, with genres from landscape to figurative, still life to cityscapes. A Preview Reception will be held Friday, August 22. A popular Wet Painting Sale will be held on Saturday morning, August 23, featuring work painted on-location by the participating artists in the previous few days. A Gala Dinner with live entertainment will take place that evening. On Sunday the show is open to the public, at no charge. The show will continue through September. Thirteen western women painters gathered together to paint one of America's best loved national parks in May, when the falls were roaring and the dogwoods were blooming. The resulting artwork will culminate in an outstanding exhibition and sale at the Knowlton Gallery in Lodi, California. Along with Jean LeGassick, the participating artists are: Cynthia Britain, Kathleen Dunphy, Terri Ford, Anita Hampton, Debra Huse, Peggi Kroll-Roberts, Jeanette LeGrue, Carolyn Lord, Kim Lordier, Zenaida Mott, Camille Przewodek, and Kate Starling. This workshop will be held through St. Mary's Art Center, a wonderful facility in the historic town of Virginia City. Predominately a landscape workshop, you will also have the opportunity to paint the old buildings, mining equipment, and ornate homes from the boom days of the Comstock. For a small additional fee you may lodge at St. Mary's (this is highly recommended).
