Biography

Many people only dream of doing what they love.

Chad Boyd is living the dream.

Born in 1965, Boyd enjoyed drawing and painting as a young man. But friends and golf lured him away from art during his teenage years. Successful business pursuits consumed his twenties. But when Boyd turned 34 he asked himself, "Wouldn't it be fun to try painting again?"

It was. So much fun, in fact, that the newfound hobby quickly became a passion. With his wife Sara's encouragement, Boyd left the comfortable life of a business executive and embarked on a journey that changed their lives forever.

To date, that journey has taken Boyd to the finest art institutions in the nation including The Art Students' League in New York, Scottsdale Artists' School, Lyme Academy of Fine Art and The National Academy of Design and Fine Art in New York. It was at The National Academy where Boyd met Everett Raymond Kinstler, the nation's preeminent portrait artist. Since then Kinstler has become a friend and mentor. At Kinster's encouragement, Boyd has continued his training by painting from life and by teaching others. "I want to teach you the language of art. What you say is up to you," Kinstler has often remarked.

And what Boyd is saying with his paintings is beginning to attract attention. His work has appeared in several publications including the February 2005 issue of PleinAir Magazine. He was one of 15 artists from across the nation to be invited to exhibit with Kinstler at a recent show entitled "Everett Raymond Kinstler and Friends." Boyd was one of only two artists whose work was completely sold out at the show.

In addition to publications and shows, Boyd's work has generated notoriety in other ways. Boyd won the first art contest he ever entered: the Tennessee Art League's 2001 Annual Members Show. His selection as the feature artist for the annual Habitat for Humanity Christmas Card in 2003 helped set a new fund-raising record for the organization. And in 2002, Boyd was named Adjunct Professor of Painting at Lipscomb University. He taught there from 2002 to 2004 and is now in high demand for a limited number of spots in his weekly studio classes.

Demand for Boyd's commissioned portraits is also increasing as evidenced by his growing waiting list. To date, Boyd has completed over 100 commissioned portraits. His work is included in corporate, institutional and private collections around the country. One of his more unique commisions involved painting a portrait of Jesus during a worship and praise assembly in Midland, Texas during 2004. An audience of over 4,000 people looked on as Boyd created the image during the opening night worship service.

Boyd's amazing journey has taken him from California to Maine and everywhere in between. It has allowed him to meet amazing people along the way. But the most amazing part is this: the journey has just begun...
